At approximately 8:50 p.m. local time on June 30, Japan Airlines Flight 8696, a Boeing 738 en route from Shanghai to Narita, made an emergency landing at Kansai International Airport. According to confirmation from the Osaka Aviation Bureau of Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, none of the 191 passengers and crew on board were injured or experienced any health issues.

A user on social media posted: “Today’s Spring Airlines Japan Flight IJ004, scheduled to depart from Shanghai Pudong at 17:35 to Tokyo, experienced a mechanical failure mid-air. Oxygen masks suddenly dropped, the plane rapidly descended from high altitude and made an emergency landing in Osaka. Im still alive, but my soul is gone! My legs are still shaking!” Another user added: “Around 7 p.m., the plane began a rapid descent—dropping to around 3,000 meters within 20 minutes. It felt like free fall.”

According to reports, the flight took off normally from Shanghai Pudong at 5:49 p.m. and was originally scheduled to arrive at Narita Airport in Tokyo at 9:47 p.m. local time. However, radar data shows that at approximately 6:53 p.m., the aircraft, cruising at over 11,000 meters, suddenly plunged to about 3,200 meters within ten minutes, eventually landing around 7:50 p.m.
据报道，该航班于当日17时49分从上海浦东正常起飞，原定于当地时间21时47分到达东京成田机场，但其雷达数据显示，在18时53分许，该航班原本位于超1.1万米的高空，在十分钟内突然急速下降至3200余米的高度。随后在近19时50分落地。
On the night of June 30, Spring Airlines issued an official statement clarifying: “Today, a social media post claimed a Spring Airlines flight suffered a malfunction and plunged 3,000 meters. After investigation, this information is false. Spring Airlines flights begin with the code ‘9C,’ and all operations are normal.”
